218 posts · Joined 2007. #2 · Oct 18, 2020. Welcome to the mysteries of stop/start systems. My 2017 Tucson stop/start hasn't worked almost all of the time since the second year of ownership. After the last dealer service it worked for a while afterwards but then stopped working again. The A button controls the automatic start-stop system in vehicles. Automatic start-stop functionality was designed for fuel economy and cuts the engine when a car comes to a complete stop. When started remotely, the engine automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of idling and/or the brake pedal and ENGINE START/STOP button have not been pressed simultaneously. Note: Make sure the vehicle is in a safe location when using remote engine start (i.e., a well-ventilated area, away from any flammable materials). n Starting the Engine ESS active while stopped. If the Jeep sits for an extended time the engine may restart to maintain battery or maintain heating/cooling levels. ESS is automatically disabled in 4wd lo and on max AC. ESS can be temporarily turned off by pressing the A switch on the dash. ESS will turn on the next time the Jeep is started. .
